Who was Ariel Sharon?

He was a war hero for Israel during their wars with neighboring Muslim states in the 60s. In 2000 he visited the Temple Mount, a holy site for Jews as it is believed to be the ruins of the temple destroyed by the Romans. Unfortunately, the site also contains the Dome of the Rock, one of the holiest sites in Islam. His visit set off the infantada which leaves us where we are today. It was shortly after this that he was elected prime minister.
