I got this cute metal round patio fireplace, the pan and chimney are made with a lightweight silver metal and?

there's a black mesh screen going around it....it sits on a wrought iron stand.........about 30 minutes after my boyfriend lit the very first fire in it i noticed red coals and ashes coming out from the bottom...........the metal on the pan just peeled open.....i later found out my boyfriend poured gas on the wood and lit it.........did that cause my fireplace to melt? i kind of think so but i am not positive?
